Gently position the first displacement cord inside the gingival sulcus. For thin gingiva, use a silk suture 4/0; for thick gingiva, use #000 cord (Ultrapak; Ultradent Products, Inc) impregnated with astringent liquid (Raceptyne solution; Septodont) (Fig. 2A). Wait approximately 3 minutes before proceeding.

Insert the displacement capsule tip (Astringent Retraction Paste; 3M) into the sulcus and inject (Fig. 2B). Wait approximately 3 minutes to remove the astringent displacement paste with air-water spray.
3.
Gently position the second displacement cord inside the gingival sulcus (Fig. 2C). For thin gingiva, use #000 or #00 cord (Ultrapak; Ultradent Products, Inc); for thick gingiva, use #00 to #0 cord (Ultrapak; Ultradent Products, Inc) impregnated with astringent liquid (Raceptyne solution; Septodont) approximately 3 minutes before performing the intraoral scan (IS 3600; DEXIS).
